History of Pathmark

Pathmark was originally named Shop Rite store during the year 1947 by a cooperative consisting of independent or self-employed New Jersey grocers who have felt that they must compete against large food companies. In 1968, the said Shop Rite store was changed to Pathmark. During that year, Pathmark already has 81 supermarkets. In the 1990’s, Pathmark units reached up to 121 units in which 62 were Super Center resulting to their sales reaching up to $2.8 Billion. At the years 2000’s, Pathmark had experienced bankruptcy but was able to recover during the early 2001.
