Pep Boys open Advance Stores, LLC. with two stores in Roanoke Virginia and one in Lynchburg, Virginia. Arthur Taubman purchased Advance Auto Stores on April 29, 1932. At that point Mr. Taubman started a successful drive to build a multi-state chain of auto and home supply stores. The first major advancement of Advance Auto Parts occurred in 1998 when the company acquired the remaining operations of Western Auto, an auto parts and general store retailer.

Today Advance Auto Parts is the second-largest retailer of automotive replacement parts and accessories in the United States. They operate about 3,300 stores in 40 US states and employ about 48,000 people all across the United States in their operations.

Job Description/ Average Wage

Sales Associate: The sales associate must know about cars and trucks in order to help the customers find the parts and accessories that they may need for their vehicle. They are in charge of the cash register, customer service, and sometimes stocking when new parts arrive. The average wage for a sales associate is $35,000 a year.

Retail Parts Pro: This person is responsible for knowing the parts and accessories in the store and how they may help the customer. They often will instruct the customer on such things as how to install a part or how to tell if the part that they have has gone bad. The professional in this area may have previous experience as a mechanic or worked in a garage with a mechanic. The average wage for a retail parts pro is $10.74 an hour.

Second Assistant Manager: This person is usually in charge of the working crew at the time of their shift. They are a supervisor in managing customer service divisions making sure that the customer receives the right parts and proper information. They may do the schedule for their team but often are more involved in training team members. The average wage for a second assistant manager is $11.72 an hour.

Supervisor / Assistant Manager: You’re going to help open, close the store, as well as assign the tasks to the various employees throughout the store.   Also, you’re going to help any associates with any duties that they need help with, as well as assist those that need help with their duties.   The average wage is anywhere from $11 to $15 a hour.
