Aldi Job Application

History of Aldi

The Aldi Supermarket chain is owned by Karl and Theo Albrecht of Germany. They are considered the two richest men in Germany. Theo has died but Karl still remains one of the richest men in Germany. The stores were broken up into two separate groups Aldi’s Nord’s and Aldi Suds’ which also operates in the United States today.

Aldi’s is an international company that operates all around the world and hires many people. The store began back in 1913 when the brother’s mother opened up a small store in suburb of Essen. Their father at the time worked as a miner and later became a baker.   Karl Albrecht was born in 1920 and his brother Theo was born in 1922.   The brother’s took over their mothers business in 1946 after World War II and soon afterwards was able to open up another retail outlet nearby.   The brothers owned about 13 stores in the Ruhr Valley by 1950.

The brothers split the business in 1960 over a dispute and by 1966 they were legally two different groups.   The brothers stayed friendly and at times kept certain house brands. Today they are still known as the richest men in Germany with many stores all over the world.
