History of AT&T

The AT & T Wireless began as McCaw Cellular with their corporate office being located in Redmond, Washington.   The cellular company was founded by Craig McCaw as a division of AT & T on July 9, 2001.   Finally, in 2004 the company was renamed the AT & T Wireless Services, Inc.   AT & T Wireless was then acquired by BellSouth. At that time with the merger the company became known as AT & T Mobility in early 2007 remaining the largest wireless carrier until 2009 when Verizon acquired Alltel to retake its position as the number one carrier.

Job Description/ Average Wage

Customer Service Representative: Most customer service representatives work in the store helping customers select the best cellular phones with the best service package. There are a multitude of service choices depending on what the customer is interested in doing such as texting, GPS, connecting to the web and much more. Then of course there is the calling programs both local and long distance. The customer service representative must be familiar with all these programs in order to help the customer. The average wage for a customer service representative is $12.00 an hour.

Retail Sales Consultant: The retail sales consultant advises the customer about the different phones and programs that the phones will carry. They help the customer select a phone and a service agreement. They also charge the customer and take the payment in the form of cash or credit. The average wage is $11.95 an hour.

Account Manager:   Working in a call center or corporate setting, this person will be responsible for overlooking accounts as well as making sure that the customer is happy with his/her services.   Most of the time, you’re going to be working with massive corporate accounts that have more than 50 contracts.   The starting pay can range anywhere from $11 to $14 an hour.

Cable Spicer: This person is responsible to go out and help take care of those who have had their computers installed on the AT & T system. They often install the outside part of the equipment before entering in the home/business and finishing the installation. The average wage is $50k a year.

Manager:   As a manager of the retail store, you’ll be responsible for overseeing all activities within the store.   You’re going to help assist customers, answer questions over the phone as well as setup new contracts.   You’ll also be responsible for hiring and firing employees, setting up schedules as well assisting with opening and closing the store.   The average salary ranges from $38,000 to $65,000   a year depending on the managerial role.
