History of AutoZone
AutoZone is considered to be a part of the Fortune 300 companies in America. The main corporation is located in Memphis, Tennessee. The company retails automotive parts and accessories. Originally the company went under the name of Auto Shack, however, when Radio Shack became popular they changed the name to AutoZone.
AutoZone’s private label brand of automotive batteries is manufactured by Johnson Controls which is a manufacturing corporation out of Holland, Michigan. The very first AutoZone store was opened at Forrest City, Arkansas, in 1979. Their name at that time was Auto Shack and Doc Crain was the store’s first manager. In 1985 Doc Crain coined the term WITTDTJR which stands for “What it takes to do the job right.” In 1988 Auto Shack officially changed their name to AutoZone and began an era of large expansion for the company.

Job Description/Average Wage
Clerk: This person is expected to have automotive knowledge In order to help the customers. They are responsible to help the customers find the appropriate parts for their vehicle. The Auto Zone Clerk is in charge of the cash drawer, the lending tools, and at times stocking the shelves. The wage varies in accordance to the knowledge and experience that you have.
Assistant Manager: This person is responsible for the crew that works at Auto Zone making sure that they are properly trained. This is a very big responsibility as they must be fully aware of the parts and supplies as well as the different types of vehicles that the customers may ask questions about. The average wage is usually very high but it varies from store to store and on the experience that a person may have.
Driver: As a driver, your duties are going to include finding the parts for local auto parts shops, as well as delivering them in a timely manner. You’re going to either use your own car, or the company provided car. This position is opened to those that are insured, as well as over the age of 18. The average wage is anywhere from $8 to $11 a hour.
Shift Manager: This position is responsible for watching over an entire shift. You’re going to make sure that all employees are doing his/her job. If there are any problems, you’re going to answer to the main manager of the store itself. The average wage for this position is going to vary anywhere from $9 to $14 a hour.
Stock Clerk: This person is responsible for putting the parts on the shelf or in the back room in the proper order. It does help to know some things about automobiles but most of the parts are boxed with stock numbers. The stocking clerk may work on the floor as well so they should be able to help the customer. The wage depends on their experience and ability to work on the floor.
