Job Description/Wage Averages

Managing Editor: The Managing Editor will have oversight of the publishing schedules for a variety of Children’s, adult trade, paper gift, and e-book titles. Other responsibilities include overall list management, analysis and implementation of editorial procedures as they relate to managing editorial, actualizing new publishing initiatives as necessary, and ensuring that house quality and standards are upheld with each title published. He/She must also ensure that deadlines are met, maintain seasonal masterlists and communicate any changes to the house; work   with Assistant Managing Editors to ensure that freelance budgets are met, and standards maintained; facilitate publishing group meetings, creative meetings, and status meetings, capturing key publishing information and ensuring seasonal schedule dates and editorial concerns are addressed; set and maintain house editorial standards; review and approve cover galleys and proofs (interior galleys and proofs, as needed); review catalog galleys; sign off on title covers for catalogs; sign off on approval advances and freelance invoices; oversee career development of assistant/associate managing editor. His expected annual salary ranges $36k to $40k.

Contracts and Permissions Assistant: This position has the responsibility of making initial phone calls with authors, agents, and licensors; generating follow-up/outreach correspondence; drafting, revising, sending addendums; maintaining annotated progress log and providing weekly work-progress summary; maintaining organized phone log and email files of exchanges for future reference; summarizing authors’, agents’, licensors’ queries and concerns for Sr. Contract Manager’s and Publishing Director’s review/response; answering authors’, agents’, licensors’ questions and concerns verbally and in writing; communicating with publisher’s policies, including light negotiation; facilitating the return of signed addendums; filing, faxing, photocopying, mailing as required. The annual salary ranges $32k to $35k.
