History of Church’s Chicken

Church’s Chicken was originally founded by George W Church Sr. on April 17, 1952 in San Antonio, Texas across the street from The Alamo. Today the company main headquarters in Sandy Springs, Georgia and there are over 1,650 locations worldwide. In the beginning the restaurant only sold chicken but later added fries and jalapenos to their menu. George W Church Sr. died in 1956 and his son George W. Church, Jr. took control of the company.

It was not long before the restaurants were expanded into 8 more and they kept growing. In 1989 Church’s Chicken became the second largest chicken restaurant chain then it merged with Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits. Even though they were merged they still continued to market themselves as separate chains. Hala Moddelmog was appointed as president of Church’s Chicken in 1996 making her the first female president of a fast-food restaurant chain. Today Church’s Chicken is co-franchised with White Castle hamburgers in some areas.

Crew Person: A crew person works the counter of Church’s chicken taking the customers orders and filling them as the cooks bring the chicken up. They box up the orders and then they charge the customer for they have ordered. The average wage is about $8.00 an hour.

Chicken Cook: This person is the one who keeps the chicken fixed fresh according to the special recipe. They put the chicken out for the crew member to give to the customers as the orders come in. The usually weekly wage is $9.00 an hour for starting.

Back Kitchen Helpers: People who work in the kitchen help prepare other foods that are served, keep the kitchen clean, and make sure that the chicken batter is ready for the cook. The kitchen helper’s average wage is $7.00 an hour.
