History of Macayo Mexican Kitchen

Macayo’s Mexican Kitchen is a family-owned business that started in the year 1946 when the proprietors and owners Woody and Victoria Johnson opened Woody’s El Nido in Phoenix, the first of the Macayo’s restaurant collection.

After 5 years the second restaurant was opened; Little Woody’s and the first Macayo’s was launched in the heart of downtown Phoenix on Central Avenue in 1952. Now Macayo’s has 18 restaurants; 14 of them in Arizona including Tucson, Casa Grande and Prescott and four in Las Vegas.   Macayo’s Mexican Kitchen grows its own farm-fresh chiles, blends them into delicious signature recipes and delivers each meal with so much hospitality.

Job Description/Wage Averages

Cook: This person is responsible for preparing the dishes of the restaurant. Specifically, he inspects food preparation and serving areas to ensure safe and sanitized food handling; ensure even cooking, cook foods according to recipes, observed and determine that foods are cooked sufficiently, regular cooking temperatures, estimate food consumptions and other duties and responsibilities assigned to him.

Dishwasher: The tasks and responsibilities of the dishwasher include washing dishes, cook wares using dishwasher or by hand; clean garbage cans with water or steam; place clean dishes accordingly, maintain the kitchen area and keep it sanitized, receive and store supplies, transfer supplies and equipment to the storage room and to the work area and vice versa; and other responsibilities assigned to him.

Hostess: The host or hostess of the restaurant will supervise and coordinate the activities of the dining room in the restaurant; specific duties include making sure that all menus are wiped down, free of spots or stains and complete; making sure that the restaurant is clean and inviting; checking restaurant reservations; planning out reservations; entertaining guest and visitors and performing other restaurant operations.

Restaurant Manager: This person is responsible for overseeing or managing the whole restaurant’s operations.   He/She will also hire and train employees, plan for the activities of the restaurant and direct workers to perform their duties and responsibilities accordingly.
