History of Petro-Canada

Petro-Canada was a top corporation of Canada in the field of oil and natural gas. The company was headquartered in the Petro-Canada Centre in Calgary, Alberta. In August, 2009, Petro-Canada was amalgamated with Suncor Energy, which took around 60 per cent ownership of Petro-Canada. However, the Petro-Canada brand for fuels, petrochemical products and service stations, and the loyalty program are maintained by Suncor Energy along with Suncor’s Sunoco brand. The company was established as a Crown Corporation in 1975 by an act of Parliament. It started its operations on 1 January 1976.
