History of PetSmart

PetSmart, Inc. does its business in the United States and Canada. The store’s name was at one time known as Pets Mart but they changed it to be PetSmart showing that they care about how animals are treated and what they need. The business engages in pet specialty supplies and services. They provide grooming and dog training along with Pets Hotel dog and cat boarding facility. The PetSmart stores also provide a Doggie Day Care for your pet. The store was actually founded in 1986 and opened its first two stores in 1987 under the name PetFood Warehouse in Phoenix, AZ.

In 1989 the store changed its name from Pet Food Warehouse to Pets Mart continuing to grow until 1993 when they went public again changing their name to what it is today PetSmart, Inc. They also changed their image to resemble a retail store front as previously they were a store front with the back-end being a warehouse. The company felt with the new image it would be less intimidating to the customers.

Cashier: The cashier is responsible to help the customer find the right products for their pets. They then will charge the customer at the cash register the appropriate price. The cashier must make sure that the cash register is kept in balance. The cashier must know the store products, the pets, and the customers in order to do a good job. The average wage for the cashier is $8.25 an hour.

Pet care Specialist: The pet care specialist helps the customer with their pets. They often advise them on the right foods, meds for things like ticks and fleas. They often help with the pets grooming procedure or may even assist in the feeding of the pet. The average wage for a pet care specialist is $8.40 an hour.

Stocker: The person who works in the store or warehouse as a stocker is responsible for making sure that all incoming supplies are put out for the customer. They must remove any food items that could be outdated or ruined. They often help unload the trucks that arrive with pet supplies. The average wage for a stocker is $7.88.

Pet Training: Going through a training course, you’re going to help other owners that come into the store learn how to train their dog. You’re going to help with simple commands such as sit, stay and more. You will assist customers with any questions that they have about their training and more. The average wage is anywhere from $8 to $11 a hour.

Store Manager: You’re going to be in charge of running the store. You’re going to help with hiring new employees, assigning tasks, as well as ensuring that the store is running at 100%. All problems are going to go toward the main, district manager. You’re going to also help all other employees with any tasks that they may have.
