Publix is commonly known as the Publix Super Markets, Inc. which is based in Lakeland, Florida. The stores started in 1930 by George w. Jenkins and today they rank No. 9 on Forbes’ 2009 list of America’s Largest Private Companies. They are also known as the largest supermarket chain in Florida today. They are now based in five states which are Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Alabama.
The store employs over 140,500 people in their 1,029 retail locations, cooking schools, corporate, offices, eight grocery distribution centers, and nine Publix brand manufacturing facilities which produce its dairy, deli, bakery, and other food products. Publix also owns Crispers which is a chain of restaurants in Florida specializing in salads. Some of these restaurants are located inside of the Publix Super Markets.

Job description/ Average wage
Cashier: The cashier is responsible for making sure that they keep their cash drawer in balance at the end of each shift. They are also responsible for customer relations. They must be friendly and helpful to each customer that they serve. They need to be able to tell the customers where the merchandise is located and help them find a product. The cashier must also put the merchandise in the customer’s bag and load it into the grocery cart when necessary. Cashiers work for an hourly rate starting at $7.00 an hour up to $10.00.
Stock Clerk: The stock clerk is the one who puts the items on the shelf and makes sure that a product does not stay on the shelf longer than its date. They also must price the product and change the prices whenever a sale is about to happen. The stock clerk must clean the area in which they are held responsible for as well as the stockroom. Often the stock clerk helps to unload truck loads of products as they arrive. The stock clerk works for an hourly rate starting at $8.00 an hour.
Deli Counter: Working the deli counter is going to enable you to work with customers that come to the counter itself. You’re going to take orders, cut meats, as well as prep foods such as the macaroni salad, rotisserie chickens and more. You will also clean up the area when your times are slower. The average wage is anywhere from $7 to $11 a hour.
Customer Service: Working the customer service counter, you’re going to be in charge of accepting orders, processing returns as well as helping with coupons, money orders, lottery tickets and the like. You will also assist customers with any questions or concerns that they have. The average wage is anywhere from $8 to $12 a hour.
Bagger: The bagger helps to put the groceries in the customer’s bag and then they usually take the groceries to the customer’s vehicle and help them to load the grocery inside. The bagger also gathers up grocery carts from outside that is left behind and put them in back inside the store. They also help the customer whenever necessary to find products. The bagger is an hourly employee and their starting wage is $7.00 an hour.
