TOPS Market started in the early 1920s when Ferrante Castellani and his family opened their first grocery store. Ferrante’s sons, Armand and Alfred, eventually took over the business and opened two more stores under the name Great Bear Market.
In 1962, the group opened its first truly modern supermarket at Portage Road in Niagara Falls, NY and was named TOPS to mean excellent shopping experience.
TOPS is based in Williamsville, NY and operates 126 full-service supermarkets and five franchise supermarkets. TOPS is a leading full-service grocery retailer in New York, and northern Pennsylvania.
Job Description/Wage Averages
Store Manager: Plans, organizes, coordinates, and monitors all aspects of store operations to insure continued growth and profitability. The Manager must implement the basic guidelines of: Customer Satisfaction; Marketing and Profitability. The Store Manager must also meet or exceed budget expectations set in place by corporate. The salary ranges $29K to $31K.
Grocery Clerk: Grocery clerks are responsible for correctly ringing up, handle the customer’s purchases, and neatly and responsibly bag those customer purchases. He/she will receive the salary rate of $8-$9 per hour.
Cashier: The cashier takes charge of the finances of the store. He/she receives the payments of the customers and should ensure customer satisfaction. The hourly rate is within the range of $8 to $9.
Customer Service Associates: Customer service associates deals directly with customers. They educate the customers about the benefits of the products and help them complete their buying transactions. They also assist clients with their inquiries and complaints and in giving refunds. The salary is $8-$9 per hour.
Customer Operations Manager: A well rounded manager whose primary responsibility is to serve as a role model for delivering remarkable customer service and work collectively with the entire store management team to promote and continually develop efficient and courteous service throughout the store. The COM oversees all facets of Remarkable Customer Service; front-end, service desk/bookkeeping, and fuel station operations, promotional support, merchandising, store payroll, labor management, hiring, orientation, recruitment/retention, front-end training, promotional support, diversity and store records administration.
